Goals

To help to the blind in recognition of medicines with an application easy to use.
To develop a simple but powerful and cheap solution based on NFC.
To be valid for all kind of people.
To be able to personalize the information of each patient.

Description

Fabula project is based on NFC mobile technology and RFID and its main goal is to identify common objects and describe them in multimedia formats like video or audio.

PharmaFabula is a specific application of Fabula that recognizes medicines and then reports about the patient information leaflet and other useful data in audio format. It only requires an NFC mobile and to incorporate an RFID tag in the medicament box. In addition, PharmaFabula can provide personal information like dosage or treatment duration of each patient. It provides two contexts:

Administration context

A doctor or a pharmacist can use FabulaWriter to write the medicine description and to send it to FabulaServer.
FabulaServer converts text to speech and stores it in an audio file. After that, it calculates the ID associtated to the medicine and sends it to write the ID in the contactless tag included inside the medicament box.

User context

Read the ID (URI - Uniform Resource Identifier) written in the tag inside the medicament box.
Connect to FabulaServer to get the multimedia file associated to the medicine.
Download the file and play the description.
