Reading more than ever
They said that telecommunications would be the death of reading but reading is back and its back to stay. Sadly so are the problems associated with this critical 21st-century skill, so more than ever we need to know what is reading about, and how to help learners to read more effectively. In this session I'll be looking at how much work is needed to perform this 'passive' skill well, and at activities that we can use to improve our learners' reading skills and sub-skills in preparation for real world reading.
Make no mistakes
Few things can be more disheartening than our students’ errors and mistakes. Yet despite our best efforts as teachers and the most diligent efforts of our keenest students, learning English is characterized by errors and mistakes. What causes these errors, and exactly what attitude should we adopt towards them? These are two of the key questions that we will answer in this session before we go on to consider when, how and, indeed, if we should correct errors.
